(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds women’s cross country and track & field teams will add Alyssa Goguen in the 2017-18 season.
Goguen, from Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent for UNB.
A product of St. Malachy’s High School, in Saint John, Goguen brings an impressive distance running resume to the Varsity Reds.
She won the 2016 J.D. Irving Invitational Cross Country Meet and the U20 half marathon at the 2016 Legs for Literacy event, in Moncton.
As a senior, Goguen ran 5th in the 2016 NBIAA Cross Country Championship and to a 4th place finish at the 2016 Atlantic Cross Country Championship.
“Running for UNB is an incredible opportunity,” says Goguen. “I’m excited and proud to become part of the team. The coaching staff has demonstrated a high level of commitment and I look forward to working with them and the team in the coming years.”
Varsity Reds head coach Chris Belof feels Goguen is an outstanding addition.
“She’s demonstrated both athletically and academically that she will be a great fit with the Varsity Reds,” says Belof. “We expect her to play an important role this coming season and in the development of our women’s distance program.”
