(FREDERICTON, NB) Madeline Mills has seen her fair share of UNB Reds volleyball. She’s been keeping score at Reds games for almost two years.
Next season, Mills will be among those doing the scoring on the court.
The 17-year-old outside hitter has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the Reds women’s volleyball team, beginning in the 2019-20 season.
“Ever since I became a ball-girl in 2014, and moved onto taking stats in 2017, I’ve loved the atmosphere of the Currie Center, and the confidence the girls showed,” said Mills. “Playing on this team has been my goal since I started playing volleyball and I can’t wait to fulfill it.”
Mills, a Grade 12 student at Fredericton High School, is a long-time member of the Reds Volleyball Club, working through their system from U13, to her current position on the club’s U18 team.
She was a member of the Reds’ 2018 U18 provincial championship team, the Reds U16 MVP in 2016, and a member of Team NB in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
“Madeline is an exciting addition to the UNB Reds women’s volleyball team,” said Reds head coach Christine Biggs. “She brings a strong base of skills, and a knowledge of the game beyond her years, through personal commitment, strong coaching, supportive family, and her involvement as an official.”
“Mills has demonstrated commitment both academically and athletically, and we’re confident that she will continue to grow through her time at UNB. We’re excited to welcome such a strong and driven young woman to the Reds family,” said Biggs.
Mills is equally as excited, and eager to contribute.
“My short-term goals are to continuously work on my game, and become a better player every day,” said Mills. “One of my long-term goals is to help UNB win an AUS title.”
