MacNeil and Belliveau Become VReds

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds women’s volleyball team is excited to announce the commitment of two players, who will begin play with the squad in the 2017-2018 season.

Megan MacNeil is dynamic hitter from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, and Mélika Belliveau is a talented and versatile player from Shediac, New Brunswick.

Both have signed U Sports Canada Letters of Intent.

A member of the Sackville Sonics(U16 and U18) club team the past three years, MacNeil has captained the C.P. Allen High School girls varsity team for two seasons. She’s also been a member of Nova Scotia’s National Team Challenge Cup squad the past two years.

"I’m super excited to have committed to UNB and I look forward to meeting the team and starting my new life as a Varsity Red,” said MacNeil.

With the Sonics, MacNeil has been coached by Jordan Brooks, a former member of the Varsity Reds men’s volleyball team.

"There is nothing that makes me more proud as an alum than to see one of my athletes commit to UNB,” said Brooks. “Megan is an explosive player who will make a huge impact on our women's program.”

MacNeil will pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree at UNB.

Belliveau plays the middle and hitter positions, and sports an impressive volleyball resume.

She is currently playing with Shediac’s Revolution Rebelles club. Previously, Belliveau was part of the Moncton Roofers club program. She’s also competed with provincial teams, and earned MVP honours with the squad at Ecole Louis J. Robichaud three straight years.

“Mélika is a very passionate player and a strong leader,” said Varsity Reds head coach Jilliane Portelli, currently on maternity leave. “We're excited to help her reach her potential with us.”

“I’m extremely excited to be joining the UNB family,” said Belliveau. “I look up to every member of the team, and cannot wait to be a part of a great group of athletes.”

Belliveau plans on studying Psychology at UNB.
