(FREDERICTON, NB) The season may have come to an end for the UNB Varsity Reds women’s volleyball team, but head coach Jilliane Portelli remains busy.
Portelli has landed a pair of recruits from Nova Scotia, both of whom will join her squad in the fall.
Libero Kelsey Bond, who has signed a CIS letter of intent to play for UNB, was sold by the volleyball program and the Fredericton campus.
“After visiting the beautiful campus and amazing Currie Centre, UNB became my first choice,” said Bond. “I’m looking forward to bringing my assets to the court, as well as improving my skills in the future.”
The Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, native is excited, and her future coach is looking forward to having her.
“Kelsey’s a dynamic libero, very capable of playing the whole game,” said Portelli. “Her ability and drive are going to add a lot to our program.”
Bond plans on studying Kinesiology.
Adora Rooyakkers will join Bond in the 2016-17 recruiting class, having also signed a CIS letter of intent.
“I am very excited to join UNB next year,” said Rooyakkers.
The Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, native has been part of Volleyball Nova Scotia’s development program for a number of years, and recently was part of VNS’s under-18 team that participated in the National Team Challenge Cup. Rooyakkers has also led her high school team the past few seasons.
Portelli is excited to have her join the Varsity Reds.
“Adora is extremely hard-working, energetic and positive. She’s a fantastic athlete who’s going to be a great addition to our team.”
Rooyakkers plans on pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree.
“I can’t wait to see what the year brings.”
Adora Rooyakkers and Kelsey Bond will join the Varsity Reds in the 2016-17 season.
