Varsity Reds Recruit From East And West

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds have looked to both ends of the country in attracting a pair of recruits, who will join the team in the fall.

NATALIE ARSENAULT

For years, the Moncton Roofers Volleyball Club has been turning out talented players… and this year is no exception.

Natalie Arsenault, of the Roofers’ U18 Black elite program, has signed a CIS letter of intent to play for the UNB Varsity Reds.

“Natalie is an excellent athlete, with a great attitude and drive,” says Varsity Reds head coach Jilliane Portelli. “She is going to be a fantastic addition to our program.”

Arsenault has excelled through four seasons of Volleyball NB competition with the Roofers. In December, she was named an all-star at the provincial championship tournament. She’s also represented New Brunswick at age-class national championships.

“I look forward to being part of the women’s volleyball team at UNB next season,” says Arsenault. “I am really excited to continue playing the sport I love.”

Arsenault will study Kinesiology.

EMMA ALLEN

Emma Allen’s volleyball resume is an impressive read.

MVP and captain of Didsbury High School’s senior varsity team in Grades 11 and 12, starting libero on the senior varsity team in Grade 10 and MVP and co-captain of the junior varsity team in Grade 9.

Currently, Allen is the co-captain of the Calgary Elite High Performance team.

The Cremona, Alberta, native has signed a CIS letter of intent to join the UNB Varsity Reds, beginning in the fall.

“We are very excited to be bringing Emma out east to join our team,” says Varsity Reds head coach Jilliane Portelli. “Her strength, passion and ability make her a great fit four our program.”

Allen has spent five seasons playing within Volleyball Alberta’s development program. In 2013-14, she participated in Volleyball Canada’s Centre for Excellence.

A defensive specialist, Allen plans on pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Degree.

“As soon as I stepped on campus, with the atmosphere and beauty, I knew that UNB was where I wanted to be,” says Allen.

Both Allen and Arsenault will join the Varsity Reds beginning in the 2016-17 season.
