McDonald Narrowly Misses Triple Jump Win

(MONTREAL, QC) The UNB Varsity Reds women's track and field team took part in the McGill Team Challenge on the weekend, finishing seventh out of 13 schools.

 

Among the highlights, Tess McDonald(Fredericton, NB) finished second in the triple jump, with a best of 11.63 metres, narrowing missing out on first place(11.65m) and her own school record of 11.67m.

 

Also, Sydney MacDonald(Miramichi, NB) finished third in the pentathlon with a new UNB record of 2985 points, beating her previous record of 2912.

 

Victoria LeBlanc(Saint John, NB) ran a season best in the 300-metres with a time of 42.92s.

 

Emma Towers(Upper Gagetown, NB) ran a personal best in the 1500-metres with a time of 5:08.63s, and Nadia Wysote(Listuguj, QC) ran a personal best in the 600-metres with a time of 1:41.85s.

 

"This was a very successful meet for our women," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "Not only did we record a school record and a pair of podium finishes, but we also recorded a number of personal and season bests."

 

"We are feeling good as we start to gear up for the final four weeks before the conference championships in Moncton," said Reindl.

Next up for the Varsity Reds is the NB Indoor Championships, on Saturday, February 4th, in Oromocto, then the Saint Mary's University meet, in Halifax, on February 11th.

 

The team will then recharge before the Subway AUS Championships, in Moncton, February 24-25, and the U SPORTS Championships, March 9-11 in Edmonton.
