Reds Plunge Into Season This Weekend.

(FREDERICTON, NB) The Atlantic University Sport swimming season begins this weekend, at the Sir Max Aitken Pool, at the University of New Brunswick.

The Varsity Reds host the annual Amby Legere Invitational.

Teams from Dalhousie, Mt. Allison, Acadia and UPEI will all make the trip to Fredericton.

Varsity Reds swim coach Robin Ferdinand feels the first meet of the season will help her team establish a benchmark. “We’re excited to race the other AUS schools and get an idea of our strengths and weaknesses.”

“We’ll be focusing on executing strong race strategies and skills,” says Ferdinand.

The Varsity Reds are led by second year swimmer Charli LeBlanc, of Yarmouth, NS. LeBlanc won three of UNB’s seven medals at the 2015 AUS championships, including a silver medal in the 50-metre backstroke.

The Amby Legere Invitational begins Friday, at 6:30PM. The meet concludes Saturday, with sessions at 10:00AM and 4:00PM. All action takes place at the Sir Max Aitken Pool.
