Productive weekend on the road for swimmers
This past weekend at the Dalhousie Invitational Meet, was a great one for the UNB Varsity Reds swim team.

The women’s team showed exceptional performances with athletes such as Danielle Losier, with top three finishes in the breaststroke events. As well, third year swimmer Kaitlyn Young, narrowly missed the opportunity, by 0.4 of a second, to make the CIS standard in the 100 fly.  Jessica LeBlanc, another third year swimmer along with fourth year veteran Monica Macdonald, were both consistent finalists in their events.

Second year Kate Lantz also stood out by finishing with all life-time bests in her events, including the 200 metre fly, in which she is now less than a second away from qualifying for the CIS standard. Marie-Pier Chasse also had a strong meet, breaking the 1:00 barrier in her 100 freestyle event.

Following in the footsteps of their more veteran teammates were first years Amanda Greene, who is now very close to the CIS standard by less than 0.5 in the 50 back, and Jordan Stanford.  Both had excellent performances and lifetime bests in all events.

“This meet was a great opportunity to see where we are in our training for the first half of the season. It allowed us to get up and race, and see where we need to improve to be even faster in the New Year,” said head coach Robin Ferdinand about her team’s performance this weekend.

“McGill brought an extremely competitive team, which bumped us down in the standings, but provided us with a national level racing opportunity.  We are going to get back in to training mode right away and work on fine tuning our skills,” continued Ferdinand.
