(MONCTON, NB) It wasn't the way it was supposed to end.

The UNB Varsity Reds season concluded Thursday night, in a 1-0 loss to St. FX, in the Atlantic University Sport quarter-finals.
After a scoreless first half, the Reds put heavy pressure on the X goal through much of the second half.
Despite repeated attempts, UNB could not find the net.
In the 88th minute, Mary MacDonald beat Sami Jo Bell to a loose ball, chipping it over the netminder's head for the only goal of the game.
Varsity Reds head coach Jon Crossland says the team is disappointed with the result. "It was representative of our season, lots of possession, opportunities created, but couldn't find the goal we needed."
"We knew what their game would be and thought we did a lot right, except score the goals needed," added Crossland.
St. FX advances to Friday's semi-final, where they'll face Acadia.
MacDonald was named the player of the game for X. Laura McNicholas was player of the game for UNB.
