(FREDERICTON, N.B.) The UNB Varsity Reds women's soccer team is pleased to announce the addition of Selina Fabbri to the 2015 squad.
Fabbri is a wingback from Toronto, Ont, who comes to the V-Reds from the Toronto Lynx soccer club.
“[UNB assistant coach] Joe and I saw Selina at the Umbro Showcase and were impressed with her ability to play on both the right and left side," said head coach Jon Crossland. "She is very capable with both feet, distributes the ball well to her teammates and also has a good ability to join in the attacks. She also doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game and likes to be engaged physically."
Fabbri, who plans to enter the Faculty of Kinesiology, says she's excited about becoming a part of a great soccer community and a top-class team at UNB.
"When I was first approached by UNB, I felt a sense of comfort and community when taking to the head coach about the team and the university," Fabbri said. "When I looked at photos and visual tours of UNB online, I got to see the beauty of the school and the town of Fredericton."
But although she was attracted by Fredericton's beauty and charm, it's all business on the soccer field.
"People should expect to see an aggressive, reliable defender who isn't afraid to go in hard for tackles or make runs up the lines," Fabbri said about her style of play. "Someone who will win her one-on-one battles and encourage her teammates to give their all no matter what the outcome."
"We're excited to have Selina join us," added Crossland. "Our program had a taste of success last season, so we want to continue to add players who will help us immediately but also continue to develop over their time at UNB. Selina fits into that category, just as the rest of our 2015 class does."
"Training camp will be an exciting time with these new faces competing hard for playing time with a motivated group of returning student-athletes. It can only be good for our program.”
