With UNB’s first goal scored by #7 Kara Johnston in the 30th minute, and the second goal scored 29 minutes later at the top of the 6 yard line by Brianna Ford, they were able to stay in the game and leave with one point to add to their standing.
“Kara scored her first goal and they’re doing some things we’ve been working on in practice – holding the line and spinning around the defender was really nice,” said Head Coach Jon Crossland.
Another key player to the game was back-up goalkeeper Kelsie Hope who came into play in the 71st minute after starting Goalkeeper Jackie Blank went off with an injury. Blank collided with a UdeM forward causing her to leave the field.
“Kelsey went in there in the line of fire to some degree and was a solid force off her line – she was brave in there,” said Crossland.
Going in late into the game, Hope said she was happy she could contribute to the outcome of the game.
“It was nerve racking, but I was confident knowing that I could try to contribute to the team,” she said.
The UNB Women’s soccer team is now fifth place going into their away games this weekend against StFX and Cape Breton University.
