The game finished with a 1-1 tie with the only UNB goal scored by new recruit #4 Haley Gates with a header from the six yard line. Playing a defensive position, Gates was able to push forward and play strong offensively.
“I think I was just in the right place at the right time,” said Gates.
“We have been working on set plays, and that was one of them, and it was executed well. It’s a great way to start the season.”
Although only 17 of the 18 players dressed for today’s game due to injuries, Head Coach Jon Crossland had no issues with any of his player’s performances.
“The second half we worked harder and said 5 yards makes a big difference and not to chase a game and they did that in the second half,” said Crossland.
“If that’s the effort we can get continuously we will be pleased, and of course finish a few of those chances we had.”
With five new players added to the roster, the team was able to bond quickly and transfer it to the field.
“It’s been fantastic – they’ve all meshed really well together, and have had no issues,” he said.
