Women's soccer program announces coaching staff
The UNB Varsity Reds women's soccer team, led by first year Head Coach Jon Crossland, is pleased to welcome back long-time assistant and twin brother Joe to his staff.  Joe will enter his fifth year as an assistant coach, while balancing teaching elementary physical education at Connaught Street and Barker's Point Elementary schools.

"Aside from the privilege of coaching CIS Soccer with Joe, his background with the women's program here at UNB will provide us with valuable insight into the returning players and how to get the most out of them on the training field and in games.  Joe is well respected by the athletes and will be a familiar face on a new coaching staff.  We both have a passion for V-Reds Soccer and I wouldn't want anyone else by my side as I enter my first season as a head coach," said Crossland, a seven year assistant with the men’s squad.

Alexandra Valerio joins the staff after a successful playing career at Princeton. She played in the Ottawa Fury system growing up, and after graduation from Princeton moved back to Ottawa where she has been coaching at various club levels.  Upon arriving in Fredericton, Valerio has worked at UNB Summer Camps and with the FDSA technical staff.

"Alex came to us via Dwight Hornibrook, former coach and national champion with UNB men’s program.  Dwight gave her a great reference and everyone I talked to afterwards gave glowing reviews of Alex.  Her resume as a player is fantastic, and one that will earn respect from the team right away. Her coach at Princeton said she was one of the best people she ever had in her program, and I look forward to Alex being a leader for our student-athletes this season," commented Crossland.
