(FREDERICTON, NB) It’s students, helping students.
Or, in this case, the UNB Student Union, helping UNB students.
Thanks to a partnership between the Varsity Reds and the UNB Student Union, student basketball fans will get free admission to the ArcelorMittal-Dofasco CIS Women’s Basketball Championship.
The national university championship will be contested at UNB’s Richard J. Currie Center, March 17th to 20th.
“This is a tremendous gesture of support for their own students,” says Varsity Reds Marketing and Special Events Manager Dave Morell. “Without it, UNB students, who don’t have to pay for regular season sports events, would pay the same admission price as other fans who will be attending the Final 8.”
Head coach Jeff Speedy will be taking his Varsity Reds up against the best competition in the country, over the four day championship.
It will feature live television coverage on Roger’s SportsNet, for the two semi-finals, on the Saturday, and the gold medal final, on the Sunday.
“We last partnered with the Student Union for the CIS men’s soccer championship. in the fall of 2013, and it dramatically increased support for the Varsity Reds at their games,” stated Morell. “We’re looking for the same effect this time around.”
UNB’s first game will be Thursday, March 17th, at 6:00PM, against a yet to be determined
UNB students need only show their valid ID, at the Currie Center box office, to receive their free ticket.
