(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds men's Cross Country team concluded their season Saturday, at the Atlantic University Sport championship meet, in Fredericton, at Odell Park.
The finishers, placing, and times (10km) for UNB were:
Joshua Shanks 20th 35:47
Trevor Morrison 21st 35:57
Chris McNamara 23rd 35:58
Jon Bunn 24th 36:07
Scott McMullin 28th 36:20
Marc-Andre Manuel 31st 36:30
Clayton Holteen 33rd 36:51
“This was a great race. We knew it was going to be close, especially in the final kilometers. In the end, only five points separated Memorial and us, which was tough," said head coach Jason Reindl.
"Our guys ran very hard, but sadly we just came up a few spots short of what we needed. In the past three years, we have seen our average time drop by 46 seconds. We know we are getting better, but need to make some bigger leaps if we are going to be more competitive in 2016.”
St.FX won the team championship, with 20 points. Dalhousie was second, followed by Memorial.
Individually, Matt McNeil of Dalhousie won the 10km race in a time of 31:14, which broke the previous course record of 32:23 by over a minute.
