Men aiming to get back on the podium as season begins

The UNB Varsity Reds men's cross country season opened up on Saturday in Halifax at the SMU/DAL Invitational.  The men's team sent ten athletes to the competition as this year their focus is to get back on the team podium at the AUS championships.

Second-year Joshua Shanks led the team finishing in a team best 27th overall in 21:14s for the 6km course. First-year Trevor Morrison was the team's second-best finisher finishing in 35th overall in 22:13s. The team's third finisher was Ben Tremblay in 37th who finished in 22:15s.  Clayton Holteen was fourth and 38th overall in 22:33s; Scott McMullin was fifth in 46th place in 23:11s. Jonathan Bunn was sixth and 48th overall in 23:15s.  Marc-Andre Manuel was right behind in seventh and 49th overall also finishing in 23:15s.  Troy Dobson was eighth for the team and 56th overall in 23:51s.  Daniel Brown was nineth for the team in 60th place in a time of 24:22 and rounding out the team was Brad Allen in tenth place and 61st overall in 24:39s.
Head coach Tim Randall said after the race, "I am very pleased with how the guys ran today.  The first race always shows where we are and while we didn't finish as high as we wanted we know we still have time to put in the work."

The V-Reds finished in fourth place overall in the team competition with 125pts.  StFX won the team competition with 22pts. Dalhousie was second with 37pts and Memorial was third with 112pts.
