The V-Reds travelled to Antigonish for the StFX Invitational this Thanksgiving weekend. This year StFX played host to both the AUS and the RSEQ conferences as the event was an interlock between the two conferences.
“The Interlock is always a highlight of the schedule. With Laval presently ranked 2nd in the country along with StFX 12th, Dalhousie 14th, and several other strong teams from Quebec this is a great test for our squad,” said coach Jason Reindl.
With more than 100 men taking part in the race from 13 teams it was by far the biggest and fastest that the Reds have been in all season. In the end though the results weren’t as positive as the team would have liked with the Reds finishing 8th out of the 13 teams with 235 points.
“We came into this race looking for some strong results. A few strong ones and a few negative ones are what we left with. Not the best day but not the worst either,” stated Reindl.
Captain Taylor Lamarche was the teams top finisher coming through in 41st place. Jonathan Bunn was 48th, Clayton Holteen was 57th, Joshua Shanks was 66th, and Chris McNamara rounded out the top 5 in 70th.
Name Place Time
Taylor Lamarche 41st 27:41
Jonathan Bunn 48th 28:08
Clayton Holteen 57th 28:41
Joshua Shanks 66th 29:15
Chris McNamara 70th 29:36
Colby Craig 74th 29:54
Michael Yitayew 81st 31:04
“While today wasn’t the best we haven’t built our season around today either. We have built it around the conference championships and over the next two weeks we will regroup and come back stronger than ever. Our goal of a podium finish at conference hasn’t changed and we will be ready,” added Reindl.
The V-Reds will take a week off from competition as they prepare for the Subway AUS Championships hosted by Saint Mary’s University in Halifax on Saturday October 25th. The men’s race will start at 12:45pm at Point Pleasant Park.
