UNB men place third at Moncton Invitational

After taking a week off to put in some quality training the VREDS were excited to get back to racing and found themselves at the UdeM Invitational on Saturday October 4th.  Five AUS teams (Dal, UNB, StFX, UdeM, SMU) and a total of 39 athletes took part in the 8km race held on the UdeM campus.

StFX won the team competition with 32 points, Dalhousie was second with 35, and UNB was third with 75 points.  SMU was fourth with 82, and UdeM was fifth with 133 points.

First year Joshua Shanks was back in action for the V-Reds and was the team's top finisher in 12th place.  Jonathan Bunn was second for the team and led a tight group of reds finishing in 16th followed closely by Chris McNamara in 17th and Clayton Holteen in 18th.  Taylor Lamarche rounded out the men's top five finishing in 22nd position.

Joshua Shanks  12 - 27:54

Jonathan Bunn  16 - 29:13

Chris McNamara  17 - 29:16

Clayton Holteen  18 - 29:18

Taylor Lamarche  22 - 29:37

Marc-Andre Manuel  24 - 30:06

Michael Yitayew  29 - 31:56

Troy Dobson  31 - 32:11

"We had a decent day today," said head coach Jason Reindl. "Having Josh back was great to see and most importantly we continue to maintain our podium position.  We are 3/3 for AUS competitions in being on the podium.  Next week our goal is to finish top three again for AUS schools as all will be in attendance at StFX and carry that momentum into the AUS championships."

The V-Reds will need to recover quickly as they head to StFX for their next and last invitational race on October 11th before the AUS Championships.  This final pre-championship race will also serve as the Interlock competition as schools from the RSEQ will travel to Antigonish.
