Record Weekend for Varsity Reds

Record Weekend for Varsity Reds

The UNB Varsity Reds Track and Field team was in action this past weekend. They split, with a group of runners, jumpers, and throwers going to Moncton, for the Jump Start Athletics Moncton Open. Another group went to Halifax, for the Athletics Nova Scotia Indoor Open.

A total of three school records were set.

In the pole vault, Troy Wilson removed his status as co-record holder with Evan Grant at 2.85m and is now the sole holder of the record, having cleared 2.90m.

The other record was set by first year student, Curtis Wackett, in the triple jump. Curtis improved on Kyle Ancheta's record of 12.81m, raising it to 12.89m.

In Halifax, in the 3000m,  Joshua Shanks ran 8:47.31, improving his own previous record of 8:57.31s.

"It is always tough to split the team, but both of these events offered the best competitive opportunities for our athletes," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "Any time we can get three school records over the course of a weekend it's a confidence booster for the team."
