Hockey adds two defensemen for the 2012-13 season.
The UNB Varsity Reds would like to announce the addition of defenseman Adrian Robertson, former captain of the Windsor spitfires of the OHL and Mikaël Tam, former captain of the Quebec Ramparts of the QMJHL to their roster for the 2012-13 hockey season.  The Varsity Reds are the defending AUS champions and have been to the CIS National Championships five of the past six years.

Tam is a 5’10, 195 lb native of Quebec City, Quebec, who has played his five year career with the hometown Ramparts where he played close to 400 games.  His regular season stats were 318 games played, 53 goals, 87 assists for 140 points and 454 penalty minutes and 66 playoff games with 11 goals, 22assists for 33 pts and 94 penalty minutes. He is coming off two 40+ point seasons in Quebec.  He has been captain of the Ramparts for the past two years and one of their top players and has a great deal of play-off experience.

Robertson is a 6’2” 210 lb defenseman who finished his OHL career with the Sarnia Sting a mid-season acquisition from the Windsor Spitfires. He was originally drafted by the Peterborough Petes where he played two and a half seasons.  He played parts of five years in the OHL where he compiled 18-57-75 in 239 games played with 298 penalty minutes and an additional 3-12-15 in 28 playoff games.  He had a career best twenty year-old season with 38 points in 52 games played this past year.

Mikaël and Adrian will be two excellent additions to our UNB program.  Both have great pedigrees and have come from winning organizations with excellent coaching. Mikaël has great leadership skills, a high competitive level and is a high impact player while Adrian has great size, excellent two-way skills and was one of the most improved over-agers in the OHL.

The Varsity Reds will release additions to their 2012-13 non-conference schedule which includes a major announcement for their upcoming 2013 Pete Kelly Challenge opponent.
