Gallagher commits to Varsity Reds

UNB Track and Field is pleased to announce the commitment of another of New Brunswick's top track and field athletes to the Varsity Reds program.

Ashley Gallagher of Oromocto High School has committed to attend UNB where she will study Kinesiology, beginning in the fall of 2013. Recently Ashley finished third in the 100m, second in both the 200m and the 400m, and part of the bronze medal 4x100m relay team competing at the NBIAA Championships.

Head coach Jason Reindl will be looking for Ashley to make an impact in the 60m, 300m, 4x200m, and 4x400m relays at the 2014 AUS Championships.

"I couldn't be more pleased to hear of Ashley's choice to continue her education and join the track and field program at UNB," said Reindl.

"Ashley has an exceptional amount of talent and range across events. I believe she will have a very successful university career and could even be seen adding the 600m in her repertoire further down the road," continued Reindle.

In only three years since its revival, UNB Track and Field has achieved high levels of success and has become a premiere institution for athletes in Atlantic Canada. Proving this are previously noted commitments from athletes Katie Robinson of Saint John, Jacob Hayes of Rothesay, and now Gallagher.

"We are fully committed to improving as a team and are looking forward to contending for AUS titles in the near future and the addition of Ashley will only enhance that goal," stated Reindl.

Gallagher will continue a family tradition of attending UNB where her mother and aunt both attended.
