The Friends of the Varsity Reds program was established to enhance the scholarship program for our student-athletes. Our aim is to attract the highest quality student-athlete to UNB. In order to achieve this, all funds raised from this program will support scholarships for UNB Varsity Reds student-athletes.
“Champions of Academic and Athletic Excellence” is our slogan and we have proven that to be true by once again having over 40% of our athletes achieve CIS Academic All-Canadian status (maintaining an average of over 80% while competing on a varsity team).
In 2013, UNB swimmer Monica MacDonald was presented with the first Governor General's Academic All-Canadian Commendation as one of the Top Eight Academic All-Canadians for the 2012-2013 season. In 2014, UNB hockey player Adrian Robertson was named a Top Eight Academic All-Canadian as well.
In 2009, the prestigious James Bayer Scholarship for the best “student-athlete” was awarded to Isabelle Miles of the soccer team. She was also named to the CIS Top 8 Academic All-Canadians.
We are proud of the established tradition and we need your support to continue to strive to be the best! Our program provides a very real and powerful educational experience for our student-athletes and prepares them for life "after UNB."
Donations received through the Friends of the Varsity Reds program go directly to our student-athletes who compete both in the classroom and in their field of play.
